We live in anxious times. Loss of biodiversity, climate change, environmental problems… How do we live with these upheavals? How should understand them? And what hope can Christians have and bring?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ecological crisis gives rise to a feeling of imminent catastrophe. Some predict the collapse of our societies. What can Christians say at this time? They speak of hope, but what do they mean? Especially since they also speak of the apocalypse and the end of time.<\/p>\n

For a long time, Christians have interpreted wars, natural disasters and epidemics as events that herald the end of history. In this seminar we will discuss ideas about the apocalypse, and how, when and why Christians have seen it as a sign of the end times. We will look at what happened to the churches when they felt that the apocalypse was imminent. We will also examine the impact of these ideas on culture in the West. Can an understanding of Christian history contribute to an understanding of the future?<\/p>\n

Graeme Murdoch <\/strong>is associate professor of history at Trinity College Dublin. He will be giving the talks in English with simultaneous translation into French.<\/em><\/p>\n

The mornings<\/em> will be talk, study and discussion around the theme of the week. Afternoons<\/em> will be free for walks, outings or just relaxing in the surroundings of Courmettes. Evenings <\/em>could include a night walk, star-gazing, dancing\u2026<\/p>\n

Other practical information: <\/em>bed linen is provided but not towels; food is organic and mostly vegetarian; participants are asked to help with clearing and washing up meals; Courmettes is at 850m so please remember it can be cool in the mornings and evenings, even in summer!<\/p>\n
