Seminar ‘Climate change – the debate’
1 June 2015 de 9h00 - 17h30
A major international conference on climate change (COP21) will take place in Paris in December 2015. Many Christian leaders are actively engaging with this question, increasingly seen as a question of social justice: Pope Francis will publish an encyclical this summer and the Pax Christi network is also addressing climate change; the Protestant Federation of France has just published a document and is calling on its members to take part in the ‘Fast for the Climate’; the National Evangelical Council of France too is concerned about these issues.
However many Christians remain sceptical: can one really ‘believe’ climate science? Even if we accept global warming, are people really to blame? And even if it is caused by human activity, is it really worth us bothering about it, at the risk of neglecting our ‘missionary mandate’ (evangelism)? All these topics will be covered in talks and discussions during the day. We hope to bring together many Christians who are asking questions about climate change and how this concerns them as Christians.
