Who are we?

The Domaine des Courmettes

The Domaine des Courmettes is a private property of 600 hectares, open to the public and situated in the commune of Tourrettes-sur-Loup in the Alpes-Maritimes. With the Pic de Courmettes rising to 1248 m, the site commands the Côte d’Azur and provides outstanding views of the Mediterranean and the Mercantour massif.

The estate, a Natura 2000 site, is part of the Parc Naturel Régional des Préalpes d’Azur. Managed as a nature reserve, it offers superb walking in an unspoilt environment. The centre’s attractive buildings at 850 m form part of the setting for visits.

Owned by the Amiral de Coligny Association, the estate has a very rich history. A Rocha has been responsible for the management of the site since 2008.

Les Courmettes appeared in the television program “Présence protestante” on France 2, one of the main national broadcasters, on 15th November 2015. Watch the clip here (in French)

A Rocha

A Rocha Forum, June 2010

A Rocha is an international Christian nature conservation organisation. The first centre was set up in Portugal in 1983, hence the name which means ‘the rock’ in Portuguese. A Rocha now has a presence in 20 countries on five continents where it undertakes scientific studies, practical environmental conservation work and education activities.

In France A Rocha was first established in the Baux valley near Arles, at Mas des Tourades (2001). From October 2020, Mas Mireille has become the base for the environmental study team. In partnership with the Parc Regional des Alpilles, a scientific team studies the biodiversity of the Baux marshes, including monitoring the European Roller, and encouraging sustainable management of the wetlands.
